Jewelry and accessories website Boticca.com, which was cofounded by former eBay and private equity executives, compared 50,000 shoppers referred from Pinterest to 50,000 shoppers referred from Facebook and said the Pinterest users spend way more money — $180 vs. $85 — but less time browsing the site.

Pinterest also drove more sales at London-based Boticca than any other sales channel — 10 percent of transactions were influenced by Pinterest versus 7 percent that were influenced by Facebook.

Pinterest clones have flooded China's web world - only months after the social image-sharing website reached massive popularity.

The site has recently surpassed 10 million users, in record time.

Copying it seems to be the latest cloning trend in China - a country known for copying the designs of everything from shoes and cars to iPads and tech start-ups.

Apple Wants To Buy Pinterest Rival, The Fancy

Apple is in talks to acquire The Fancy, a fast-growing social commerce site backed by cofounders of Twitter and Facebook, Business Insider has learned.

The objective: to secure a role for Apple in the growing e-commerce market, putting the 400 million-plus users with credit cards on file with Apple's iTunes Store to work shopping—with Apple getting a cut of the action.

While The Fancy is far smaller than archrival Pinterest, which similarly lets users make lists of things they find interesting, the 20-person New York startup, led by cofounder and CEO Joe Einhorn, is much farther along in linking its users to transactions. The Fancy takes a 10 percent cut of purchases. Last we checked in, sales were exploding.

Pinterest Raises $100m in Funding: WSJ

Pinterest, the increasingly popular online bulletin board, raised $100 million in a financing round that values the US start-up at $1.5 billion, the Wall Street Journal said, citing people familiar with the matter. 

The funding is led by Japanese e-commerce site Rakuten, with Pinterest's existing venture-capital investors such as Andreessen Horowitz,FirstMark Capital and Bessemer Venture Partners also participating, the report said.
